Back in 1977 (…) I started my working life at an airfreight forwarder and I have worked in aviation ever since. Recently, I decided to use my experience and network to the benefit of those who seek to make their work environment more safe. 

During my years on the ramp I, unfortunately, have also witnessed the grim side of ground handling; injuries -sometimes severe- and also seen expensive and inconvenient damages to airplanes and other properties. We know this happens all over the world; at any staff experience level, with or without time pressure and working with any type of GSE material on a crowded or even a quiet ramp area.

I have been an instructor on widebody Weight & Balance systems and manual loadsheet compilation and hold a FAA Flight Dispatch License, Also I have, quite recently, expanded my background by attending the following training:

• Airline Safety Investigation
• Advanced Incident and Accident Investigation
• ICAO SMS and EASA Management System requirements
• Law of Aviation Insurance
• EASA Air Operations Management Team – Nominated Person Ground Operations

Goal

My goal is to help you, your company and your staff achieve safety improvements both in numbers and in safety culture performing training, auditing, assessments and SMS implementation.  I have a ‘down to earth’ , no-nonsense approach to most matters including safety. I have developed a firm belief in the added value of Safety Management Systems but also believe ‘one SMS size does not fit all’. 

Let’s take safety from the boardroom to the ramp and back again.

How do I work ?

With your approval I seek to find out the ‘safety culture’ in your company by myself. I will literally talk to anyone at any level including you; visit the ramp, observe your staff at work, listen to the stories in the canteen and look at manuals, training records etc.

I will return with findings and make you an offer with recommendations for training, assessments and / or auditing. The initial fact-finding mission is on me (no charges). 

Incident investigations obviously require me to go straight to work. I will work with your safety staff if available and make an added value to any investigation.
